Away Day For The "Dead-Wood"
16th November 2009
A group of the oldies Davy Zimmerman Miller, Duncan the laird Carmichael, Jim chippie Taylor, Jim nug Gunn spent a few days of Rest and Recreation at the lairds croft a couple of weeks ago. The major highlights were Davy’s long distance ride to Arachle in Ardnamurchan approx 130 miles on a lovely day on Monday and his return ride back on a less than acceptable day on Saturday which included two punctures and rain and a stiff headwind (character building). Davy was in action again on the Wednesday on a ride out to the castle along the river bank when we had to shelter from a rain shower. Davy using his woodcraft skills sat on a branch which promptly broke and nearly projected himself into the river, talk about dead wood!!. After Davy left on the Saturday Gunn and Taylor nearly got lucky when the elderly lady in the café offered to put off what she had planned for Saturday to go out with them. The night proved interesting when Duncan had some guiser’s for Halloween the highlight being trying to lift the drunk coalman who weighed about 15 stone and Taylor getting shown one ladies tights which were too tight at the gusset. Talk about quiet night-life !! The other members had three days of cycling on short legs all there and back to the croft, ( any further that 12 miles out meant we had to climb big hills and we thought we would leave this till our spring offensive). The meals were great the real ale flowed as well as the whisky for medicinal purposes. Thanks to Duncan for his kind hospitality
