Club Presentation night a great success.......
22nd November 2008
The Couriers met in Uplawmoor on Saturday night for the annual club presentation. This was the first time the club has held the event during the evening instead of the afternoon after the club hill climb. The idea to hold the event at night came from club TT champion Jim Cusick. Here is what he had to say.....All I could say that the idea was to keep it as simple as possible. We have a really good club and there is a good spirit throughout. Hopefully nights like last night in Uplawmoor will help the club to bond further. As racers, we tend to mix with each other and it is good for the whole club to meet in this environment. Celebration and recognition of a years hard work on the bike are important too. So simple formula. Get a couple of great cooks in place with a reasonable budget (£150) to work with. Judy did the excellent soup, 4 large lasagnas, salad and fish pie. Kerry made a couple of really nice lasagnas and would have made a lot more if we had needed it. John A and young Barry chipped in with some nice deserts. Other than that just get a good facility like the Mure Hall, throw in a load of friends and off it goes. On the night, Judys friend Sally Mulholland came in to help us and the two of them were complete stars! Both her and Judy worked a catering business before and their professionalism was very obvious. Was a great idea having the 3 sponsors attend and Iain Sinclair turned out to be a very good guest. Due to my decreased mobility, Stevie Blom stepped in to help me a bit with the final running about and deserves some thanks for that. Trisha showed her excellent organisational pedigree by taking charge of the raffle with little prompting and helped recoup some of the evenings costs. As always Ian Sharpe was an excellent compare. I genuinely enjoyed doing it. We should do it again next year. In terms of some learnings, perhaps I should have been more explicit about the start time. We were a bit late getting kicked off and the cooks were getting a bit concerned as the schedules were slipping. Also, I always worry about the numbers and would be so much easier if I had a definite number to work to. Perhaps a wee light hearted quiz thrown in at some point in the night would have added to the fun element. Some more raffle prizes would have been good but this was an afterthought and thanks to all that donated something. All in all, a good success and once again, I would reiterate my thanks to Judy & Sally for an epic shift in the kitchen, and to Kerry, John and Barry C for their culinary contributions. It was really nice to see everyone genuinely enjoying themselves and great that they made the effort to come from far and wide to be there. Looking forward to 2009!! Cheers Jim ps the real star of the show was wee Adam Smart on his first official club outing!!!!
