A day at the races

Posted on 20th August, 2012

Couriers descended on Paisley yesterday to enjoy a days race action courtesy of Johnstone Wheelers Scottish Criterium Championships which was yet again a credit to the organisational skill of Kenny Steele and the team. The Thomsons Cycles marquee provided  a convenient warm up area for the riders as well as a gathering point for assorted Couriers throughout the day.

There was plenty to cheer about once the racing got underway as Jack Carlin took 5th in the Youth Race as well as being first WOSCA rider. Lynsey Carson represented the club in the Ladies event riding well and finishing in 16th place. In the 4th Cat race we had Jim Gilmour , Paul Friel, Sean Gordon and Gary Dunn with Sean taking 5th and Garry finishing well up in the bunch. Sean also managed to gather enough points to claim his 3rd Cat license- some achievement in his first season as a junior.

Franco piles on the hurt as Sean and Gaz bide their time.

Sean takes 5th and Garry is well up there!

When the main event got underway it was Richie Provan flying the flag for the club. Richie rode above and beyond to finish 29 - only 20 seconds behind winner James McCallum of the Rapha Condor Pro Cycle team. What a ride by Richie in his first race among the big boys!

The shop boys kept us amused as usual
